Vietnam Team

About the team

The Vietnam Team focuses on environmental issues and Japanese-language education in Vietnam, where various challenges have arisen alongside economic development. With the motto of seeing things from the perspective of local people, we work while constantly exploring what we can do as students.

Since resuming trips in fiscal 2023 after the COVID-19 pandemic, we have worked each year to identify and analyze problems through our trips, and to plan and carry out appropriate projects to solve them.

Our activities

  • Regular activities: one meeting a week, in person or online
    • Research and analysis of social issues in Vietnam, interviews with local people, project planning and preparation, etc.
  • Two trips to Vietnam a year, in spring and summer
    • Site visits on social issues, exchanges and discussions with local students, implementation of problem-solving projects, etc.

This year’s activities

In fiscal 2025, we have newly turned our attention to the “waste problem” in Vietnam.

On our spring trip in March 2025, aiming to learn firsthand about the current state of and challenges in Vietnam’s environmental issues, we visited organizations working on environmental problems in Hanoi and held student discussions on waste and climate change at Hanoi University and the Foreign Trade University.

After the trip, we organized the local challenges and needs, and set the waste problem as this year’s theme.

For our summer trip, we are planning both site visits focusing on more specific aspects of the waste problem and the implementation of a project to address it. We are now preparing for the summer trip by researching the waste problem further, exploring approaches, and devising and refining our project.
