Our Activities

What we do

“Promoting multilateral student exchange”

“Student-led international cooperation projects”

NPO MIS carries out a wide range of activities, mainly in Southeast Asia, along these two pillars.

“Promoting multilateral student exchange” — Japan-ASEAN Student Conference

Multilateral Interaction with Students — as its name suggests, NPO MIS promotes exchange among students from many countries, not just Japan.

In today’s globalized world, we believe that by continuing to absorb the cultures and perspectives of many countries, not only our own, and by creating opportunities for lively discussion among many students, we can build networks that will serve us in the future and gain new learning.

With the support of many people, NPO MIS has held discussions and cultural exchanges with students from ASEAN countries through activities such as running the Japan-ASEAN Student Conference, and has worked to build a global network among students.

In recent years, on the initiative of members who wanted to create opportunities for multilateral student exchange not only for university students but also for high school students, the Japan-ASEAN Youth Summit Executive Committee was launched, aiming for a more inclusive program with a broader audience.

“Student-led international cooperation projects” — Project Implementation

“How can we approach international issues as students?” MIS keeps facing this question, and has set up the Project Implementation Division as the team that puts the ideas we devise into practice.

In the Project Implementation Division, members travel to a particular country and, through seeing and hearing firsthand the challenges that country faces, devise project plans within the team that can move toward solutions, then carry out those plans on site and in Japan.

We are students—neither international cooperation professionals nor people doing this as a job. But there must be “abilities we can use precisely because we are students” and “voices we can raise precisely because we are students.” Always keeping this in mind, we sincerely face the issues we focus on and run our projects on our own initiative.

Our project implementation in fiscal 2025 mainly consists of the following three teams.

“Thailand–Myanmar Border Team”: educational support for Myanmar displaced people living on the Thai side of the border
“Vietnam Team”: Japanese-language education and the Technical Intern Training Program in Vietnam
“Philippines Team”: solving various problems in the Philippines
